When you purchase a pro theme, you should receive an automated email with your license key and a download link for the theme file. Once you import the .zip file for the theme in your WordPress dashboard, you will be able to enter the license key from the email in the Appearance --> Theme license section of the dashboard as shown in this video.

For a free theme, no license key is needed.
